Integrated units, taught in the other academic disciplines, help students integrate what they are learning in Foundations in Law into their core academic classes. Throughout the course, Opportunities for Integration identifies how the activities and content in the units connect with other academic subjects. For Unit 1, you may want to work with other teachers on the following activities:

Activity 1B provides a rich opportunity for integration with an English language arts (ELA) teacher. The themes of isolation from society, anarchy, and human nature at its most primal that are raised in this activity could be explored through literature, such as William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake, and Suzanne Gordon’s Hunger Games.

In Activity 2B, collaborate with a social studies teacher who is teaching the U.S. Constitution. Students can learn in greater depth the debate over the ratification of the U.S. Constitution in the late 1700s. Also consider working with a world history teacher who is teaching constitutions of different countries.

In Activity 3H, collaborate with an ELA teacher to work with students on letter-writing, proofreading, editing, and revising their written work.
